After struggling with my six foot square shed as a
tank workshop (something it was never meant to be in the first place!),
freezing my bits off in the winter and seeing a work colleagues workshop
I decided the time had come for some action!!! I contracted the skills
of our resident SE mechanical engineer, young Howard, who has a knack of
being able to visualise and design all in one go. We decided to go for a
full width building, with a sliding door at the rear for tank access.
Sliding so that it doesn't take any room up once opened like an opening
door would. A local firm made the building and erected it and we then
took it from there. |

 |
| Here's a view from the bedroom window,
it kinda fills the garden! |
Inside we see the gap where the
sliding door will fit. You can see the twin outward opening back gates
to enable me to get 1/4 scale tanks in and out (hopefully!) |
On the opposite side is the door which
leads out to the garden path with the narrow workbench... |
...which you can see better in this
view. My vice, pillar drill, band saw (donated by Howard) and grinder
will sit on here. |
This is where my big work bench will
go. You can see the sliding door leaning up against the wall, it weighs
a ton! |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| These next few views show the walls
and ceiling lined, insulated and the lights up. Also the sliding door is
mounted and closed in this picture... |
...and open in this view revealing the
back gates. |
Looking at the right hand end, this
area will be a tank park! |
We temporarily removed the narrow
bench to line and insulate the walls. |
This is the main bench area with four
sockets for the bench and two up high where the shelf will go for all my
power supplies. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Now we have some shelves and drawers
up on the wall above where the bench will go. Power supplies all plumbed
in as well. |
Most important a phone for ringing
indoors ordering teas and coffees. Yeah right, dream on! |
This is the travelling
crane/hoist/whatever. Designed primarily for removing quarter scale tank
turrets, should I ever have the need... |
And here's an example of it in action.
This may only be a half track but it is extraordinarily heavy. Howard
has proved the strength of the hoist by hanging off it, all six stone of
him!!! |
One of my little assistants... |
 |
 |
 |
|
|
| ...and here's the other! That laptop
must be warm. You can see how people claim the pet bid for things on
Ebay!!! |
One of the first projects is Johnny's
Sturmtiger which is gradually being upgraded to 24v and 4QD speed
controllers. The bench can be seen in the background. |
Yes I know it's snowy but look how
small my old shed was! Compare this with the first picture on this page
:-O |
