About

This is my website showing my 1/8th scale Radio Control model Jagdpanther. It shows how it was modified from the basic production model as received and extra detailing added.

These first two pictures show the model as delivered from Mark-1-Tanks. The chassis has the motors and transmission installed and only needs some RC equipment and batteries to make it run.

The model is a good representation of the original but I wanted to convert it to a later model as my old 1/10th model was. The next picture shows the all aluminium 1/10th model before it was sold and travelled to the USA.

The biggest limitation with this model was its resin tracks and lack of transmission. I eventually managed to track down a suitable transmission but never went any further with this model after discovering the 1/8th models of Mark's.

I always wanted to make a large scale model tank and made a lot of scale drawings many years ago of a Jagdpanther (always my favourite). The problem I came up against then was the production of the wheels, sprockets and tracks. This is still the same hurdle that most of us amateurs come up against not having the engineering experience and equipment to produce these items.

Then I found a company on the Internet selling large scale model tanks. This was too good to be true! I got in contact with the man in charge, Mark Spencer and met up with him at the Euro-Militaire show at Folkestone 2000. I was most impressed with his models and it was interesting to compare his examples with a pre-production sample of the now defunct Winson Engineering's Tiger1. At the same time as this moves were afoot to create a UK Tank club (soon to become The UK Tank Club) and arrangements were made for everybody to meet at the South Western Model Expo at Bovington Camp Dorset in late September 2000 for the inaugural meeting. Here we see a view of some of the models including my 1/10th Jagdpanther on the end.

Mark came along with some of his models and we all shared a stand together. The organisers asked for a display of the models so some of the Tamiya 1/16th models were put onto an indoor track and put through their paces.

Some of the more hardy souls took their Tamiya models outside together with Marks 1/8th Panther. I was most impressed with the Panther-the picture says it all. I more or less decided there and then I wanted one but I really preferred the Jagdpanther to the Panther. Mark had hinted that one may be in the offing and would let me know if came off. Meanwhile I cleared it with domestic authorities that if I sold the 1/10th model first I could have a 1/8th!!
Fortunately I managed to sell the 1/10th model paving the way for its replacement. The opposite page shows the prototype which appeared about Christmas time 2000. I received my model in February 2001 and set about making it into the model it is today.

The rest of the website shows the major conversion from the stock production model to the finished article and various groups of pictures on its many outings .
