At the 2005 Military Odyssey show what is now the SdKfz
Restoration Foundation unveiled their recently restored JagdPanther. I arrived
with the UKTC South East Division's 7.5 Tonne Iveco tank transporter on the
Friday and witnessed the unloading of the JP off it's low loader. I was amazed
that it was so quiet but I guess anything would be quiet after the Bovington
Tiger! That evening we had a good look around the JP and spoke to some of the
guys that I'd seen three years ago when we visited their workshops. The JP took
part in the WW2 re-enactments on all three days firing it's main gun (using 88mm
blanks no less!) raising some smiles. We met up with the crew while driving
Bryan the Bastard around and ended up chatting about all things JP for well over
an hour. It seems that they have met everybody who's anybody in the armour
restoration world with names like Jentz, Doyle, Wheatcroft, Littlefield and the
like bandied around. They even went to the Aberdeen Proving Ground and got the
JP opened up to look inside so that they could see what an (almost) original
example looks like. They said it looked like a time capsule. On the Sunday
evening we were invited to have a look inside so complete with parka, sunglasses
and hat I had my picture taken in the commanders hatch looking for all the world
like Hauptman Humpy!!! Below are some pictures from Garry Coomber, John Goodman
and a couple of videos from Vince Abbot, thanks to all.
